Glossary

The Cubbies Leader Role Book is a good place to start learning about Cubbies. See if your church has a copy. The page numbers below indicate where you can find these items described in the print edition of the Role Book.

  • A&C Verses. The A and C verses are introduced on the Cubbies Vest and in Bear Hugs 1 and 2. A stands for All, All have sinned... (Rom 3:23). C stands for Christ, while we were sinners Christ died for us. (Rom 5:8). These verses were intentionally choses and the foundation for Cubbies for their simplicity in telling the full Gospel message: All have sinned and Christ died for us.

  • Gospel Wheel, p.14. The Gospel Wheel is an Awana recommended approach for sharing the Gospel. Although it may be too advanced for Cubbies, it is an excellent tool that is worth becoming familiar with so that you have a handy method of sharing the Gospel wherever you are.

  • Total Time Teaching, p.23. Total Time Teaching is the idea that one thread weaves the entire club night together. Every segment (snack, games, craft, puppets, songs, lesson) all can be woven together with one idea. For example, if we are talking about the day God created light and dark, our snack may be an oreo-style cookie and you can say to the Cubbies: This cookie reminds me of the light and dark that God created in today's lesson. Our game may be something with turning lights on and off. Our song may be This Little Light of Mine.

  • Punishment v. Discipline, p. 26

  • 3-count, 5-count, p. 27

  • Cubbie Buddy Levels, p. 28

  • 3 Hop Method, p. 35. The 3-hop method encourages you to follow the formula: Review and Repeat, Recite, and Reinforce. Similar to Total Time Teaching, this method helps you be intentional on teaching the Bible verse throughout each segment of the club night. Review and Repeat the Bible verse throughout the night, whenever you have spare moments, it really only takes a moment. Ask Cubbies to say their verse with you in multiple ways: in a high voice, in a low voice, standing on one foot, rubbing their belly. You can say the verse 20 times in a few minutes this way. Then when it comes for them to Recite (during Handbook Time), they know the verse even if they did not work on it at home. The verse is reinforced through crafts, games, the lesson, and puppets. Every leader has an opportunity to share the verse. The same leader who gets excited about games, also gets excited about Bible verses!
